Kasiemba Okeyo is a filmmaker, film composer, and songwriter. Born and raised in Los Angeles by a Malawian mother and a Kenyan father, he was brought up on an eclectic sonic diet ranging from Paul Simon and Bob Marley to Miriam Makeba and Michael Jackson. Inspired by the film music of Tan Dun at the age of 18, Kasiemba abandoned his original plans to study Computer Science and began studying music at the local community college. There, he studied classical piano, music theory, counterpoint and arranging under the guidance of conductor, Norman Mamey, and later transferred to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he studied film scoring, orchestration, songwriting, and jazz piano. Kasiemba currently resides in Los Angeles working on various commissioned motion picture projects while developing his skills as a sonic and visual storyteller.
